Proper Car Washing Tips

Regular car washing is an important task to maintain your car's appearance. Most people tend to neglect some of the simple and quick steps that can keep an auto looking new. To make your job easier, invest in a few good car wash supplies. Quality car wash tools can make a big difference.
Armed with a bucket and water hose, here are the proper steps to make car washing easier:

1. As much as possible, work in the shade, out of direct sunlight. Elevated paint temperatures cause the water to evaporate too quickly, increasing the likelihood of water spotting and staining.

2. Start by preparing a bucket with a car wash shampoo. Wash the wheels first. This prevents you from splattering cleaners, dirt and brake dust on already cleaned panels. Begin at the top of the car working your way down. Take you time in washing the surface and do one panel at a time to keep the suds from drying.

3. After each panel, proceed to rinsing your mitt in the bucket with the clean water. To prevent scratches when drying your car, use a soft, absorbent terry-cloth towel or a chamois.

4. You should also polish your car's paint using a polisher and a high grade polish. This is a great way not only to clean the paint but to smooth out the surface before you wax it. The final step is to wax or seal the paint.

5. Take just a few extra minutes when you wash to wipe down the engine, door jambs and trunk. Keeping these parts clean will prevent a bigger clean-up job later.
